A decent audience recording. "Kaleid" is incomplete and "Halo" has a missing segment, otherwise this is a complete recording. This is a nice upgrade to the previous lossless version. This torrent's version has slightly better frequency response, less noise and less distortion. I applied some fairly light noise reduction to lessen the hiss, but it's still present. I can't apply strong noise reduction without significantly harming the audio. Some songs seem to wander between stereo channels; I'm fairly sure this is how the recording is, as the currently circulating lossless version exhibits a similar characteristic.
My previous tape deck (Onkyo TA-2055) doesn't play tapes anymore when I hit play and I have no idea why, so I purchased the Yamaha K-340 tape deck for $10 at a local thrift store. I cleaned it thoroughly (the roller was dirty as hell!), and demagnetized it as well. I think it sounds fine and should work well for the remainder of the audience recordings I have. This Yamaha deck is a little noisier overall than my Onkyo, and it's a bit odd that it has no output volume control, but hey... it was $10! Good thing noise reduction and normalization exist, though I sure do miss my Onkyo. I'll still be searching for a better deck at my local thrift stores.
Many thanks to darkdevoted for generously shipping me this cassette.
